This is quite an impressive sounding preamp even by today's standards.Who said you can't make a sand preamp perform well?

Was the Dayton-Wright SPA . Bettered the JC-2 and the SP-3a.But shortly after there was the (tube) SP-6 :)

I had the SPA at the same time as my SP-3a1 and my evaluation yielded the opposite result. Likely a difference of the rest of the system and source material.

Likely a difference of the rest of the system and source material.Certainly. And perhaps priorities come into play. While I enjoyed the midrange and top of the SP-3a, it wasn't particularly quiet with MC cartridges.
I heard the preamps with a Threshold Stasis 2 driving Dayton-Wright XG-8s. Source material was usually classical vinyl. Table was a SME 3009/Linn-Sondek LP-12 with an Ortofon or Denon cartridge.
edit: The SPA replaced a JC-2 in that particular system which was the first SS preamp I heard that truly challenged the SP-3. I would agree that none of those preamps bettered the others in every way.

Its there, thats Early bender.
it said that the preamp is a early opamp design. It would be nice to see a list of vintage tube and sand preamps that are currently not selling for thousands of dollars and are great if properly rebuilt.
Think Yamaha!

Thanks for sharing. There recently were a pair of Hegeman speakers on eBay. I would like to hear them.
Dave
Are these the ones as I would love to hear these?
