Thanks, for the post. Do you have any photos of the R&R job, that Mike did?

Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
The Mc240 amp had had the power supply rebuilt 8-10 years ago and the bumblebee coupling caps replaced by myself.I thought that it sounded great.I truly didn't expect to have the amp so greatly improved after Mike's modifications.I'm thinking that it is now better than it ever was even when new.The rebuild and the quality of the old iron are a great combination.

It was only the doubler part of the power supply that was rebuilt and the cans were dated 1973...

Hi
Yes it is most definitely better than new. Same with the Citation II amps. It is amazing that people sell old bumblebee caps on ebay for some sort of "tone". In 1960 it was one of the best caps there was. Today it simply isn't....Sam You swap them out of a Citation I preamp and put in decent modern caps and maybe a nice oil cap or two and wow. Same for the power supply caps and diodes. The quality of any great tube amp is pretty much determined by the iron, the power supply, and of course the circuit design. Your amp has great iron and a good circuit. Improve the parts and the amp becomes much better..... The bonus is that is will probably be trouble-free (except for changing tubes) for many, many years. May it make you happy for years!
The McShaned power supply and ground scheme with the much better filter caps and added decoupling filtering and better diodes and critical resistor types all make the Macs and the Deuces spec much better than they ever did.
