Just one of a number of US companies that could not survive between the onslaught of the transistor era and imports. Yes, very competitive in sound, engineering and build quality.

When I worked at Montgomery Wards as a TV salesman in the early 80's, we sold a Pilot Rack system. It was total junk, but still made in the USA. I found it interesting that the amp had an output transformer.

I believe it would have been a different company. See:. http://oldradios.co.za/companies/65-pilot-radio-uk.html

Emerson was another fine brand that we sold at Wards. Possible, they tried to revive the name. The Pilot rack system was a miserable failure. I think only two or three were ever sold at our store. Then we stopped carrying it. I never saw it anywhere else.
