This is before the added decoupling capacitance which makes a phenomenal difference in any Mac amp. There is no two ways about it,the ground scheme, and the added decoupling capacitance, and the killer 820uf panasonic switch mode doubler caps,Schotky diodes or the GI diodes are the trick to bringing out the grace and charm of the Mac amps with doubler power supplies.
Resistors in the plate circuits have to be Carbom comp or Carbon film as do the feedback resistors and input grid resistors..For grid to ground, the RN65s are great...The 12k resistors between the phase inverter and voltage amp should be wirewound or 5 watt carbon films.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.

What are the brown capacitors?
I think you mean the reddish ones and those are Panasonic film and foil..The small dark brown ones are silver mica.

The Panasonic must be of importance. I never heard the Panasonic. Are they current production?
For fine tuning I use either Vitamin Q or Mundorf Silver/Oil to mix with the K40Y-9.
Unfortunately they are no longer in production...I also use VitQ for tuning which I will be in this amp as well...It sounds superb now but I will tune it further..I use a lot of Solen film and tin foil which are fantastic caps.

Matsushita (Panasonic's parent) did us no favors. :> ( The ECQ-P(U) caps. were price/performance champions. Discrete aluminum foil and polypropylene construction, along with OFC leads. Grab any NOS stock you come across, if the values are of use.
The closest things to the ECQ-P(U) being currently manufactured are 716P series "orange drops".

I use 716P in shortwave radio rebuilds- low cost. Also excellent for bypass circuits in power supplies.
