All of the gear I bought in a PX in Japan "back in the day" was intended for the US market. I didn't buy everything, but I tried. Abe (Ahh-bay), the young Japanese dude who spoke English better than I did, was awesome. Hope he's well! I wonder how many Yamaha M-2's he sold.
On-base, we had good 'ole American 'lectricity. Friday night open-squadbay volume competitions were something else.
I wish I could remember the name of the store, but it was the Japanese equivalent of a Macy's. One whole floor dedicated to audio gear. Amazing. A wall of turntables. Shelves of today's unobtanium. Bow-ties and aprons in the glassed off room where the "expensive" stuff was kept. What I would not give to have a do-over on those days!

I'm pretty sure that Japan uses 120v like us. I sold something on ebay to a Japanese customer and in our back and forth emails he said that Japan is like the US w/ the same voltage.
I believe it uses 100 volts vs our current reality of about 125.

It was a looong time ago. Either way, gear with the 'verse switch was not the norm.
Thanks, I'm not meaning to be disagreeable, just making conversation from my conversation w/ a Japanese fellow. I think your right though, my receiver is not the norm, and something a bit special.
