I don't know what you mean by grey market, but I'm not totally convinced, though I don't know either. The factory label that includes the serial number on the rear, states the voltages and frequency. I suspect the serial # starting w/ 900 must indicate this particular version. Plus the extra fuse socket on the inside, and larger power transformer with extra voltage taps to accommodate the universal voltages. Seems like a lot of expense to sell at bargain basement prices on the grey market.
Follow Ups:
The grey market is where companies buy large quantities of a product, and are able to sell at a reduced cost because there they remove the warranty card and they also work under the table (illegally) and are able to sell the same name brand product at a lower cost. Still happens today, especially with cameras sold through new York. the product is still original though...
Often they are destined for a market other than the US, hence the multi-voltage.

Interesting you say that. Everything I have read and even the owners manual claims my receiver (HK AVR7000) claims it is 220 v. It is most definitely 110 but with a heavy gauge power cord.
Maybe it was converted. May receivers that did not have external switching were convertible to different voltages. That way the factory could churn out one receiver and use different transformer taps and plugs depending on what market it was going to.
