You come up with some cool stuff! Why not lose the loctal though, they kinda suck. Not to hard to go 6SL7 although the tubes cost more.

The Loctal is such a tight fit and microphonics are zilch. There are a lot of unclaimed loctals out there and the build quality is exceptional being many of them ended up in Ford car radios. We know the abuse car radios took with the early suspensions and crappy unpaved roads...I was surprised at what is still out there in NOS/NIB.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
The tube pins and sockets as pointed out are the issue. Good thread!

The issue with Loctal tubes is pin corrosion. Scrape the pins with a razor blade or a powered stainless steel wire brush. Don't stinge on the DeOxit. It takes WORK to dispose of the crud, but the effort pays serious dividends.
Once a Loctal tube's pins are clean, it will frequently outperform the electrically equivalent Octal type. Steel pins through glass are more rigid than the Octal central stem, which leads to lower microphonics. Also, some capacitances are smaller.
Remember, regardless of branding, Loctal tubes were made by Sylvania at a time when their product was every bit as good as the stuff made by TungSol and RCA. Consider the rave reviews Sylvania 6SN7s get.

I have found that same scenario with the 7868 as opposed to the 7591 even tho they are electrically equivalent..The tube pins going directly into the tubes
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
