If I lived in the Toledo, OH area I would think about this amp!The box is probably rarer then the amp?

Looks well used but not abused. The faceplate is starting to show some wear but a careful cleaning and the addition of a clear plastic protector should preserve it as it does not appear the paint has worn through.
Mike, never has a 5500 but understand the difference is it has passive preamp vs active in the 5000. If this is the difference does it not have the potential to actually sound better? If the amp circuits are close could it be modded to be a 5000 power amp with passive preamp? Always wondered about the potential.

The 5500 also has considerably smaller iron than the EL84 5000, despite 7591 power tubes. It's a nice-sounding amp, not sure how it stacks up against the larger-iron Sherwoods.

Even tho that is a more basic amp with fewer tubes than the S5000 series, those amps really rock out when they are properly rebuilt..It has very nice iron and great chassis material for shielding..I can give you a list of what to do on those..The 7189 S5000 is still my favorite but this amp holds its own in general listening.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
The shipping is minimal. I would go for it....
