I'd get rid of those level control pots that degrade sound and put in something to make them fixed level. Thoughts?

You can jump them out with good quality wire. The first I did 5 years ago I used an all film cap power supply, all but two filter caps,I then bypassed the tone controls and I changed the 12AX7s to 6922s in that part of the circuit along with complementary plate and grid resistors, then I put battery bias on the cathode at 3vdc..I didn't need the gain when I eliminated the tone controls and the higher transconductance worked very well there.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
It is a very cool piece either way!

Given the extraordinary difference in output levels I encounter routinely these days, how could you possibly "fix" them?
I know how a pot, especially a little cheesy one can degrade sound. Every input on that has an adjustment. It's not like there is no volume control on the front panel to compensate for differences. Some sources also allow for some control if you will. Just the less is more philosophy.
