A link to a thread of interest about speaker wire connection is provided below. Banana plugs and heavy gauge wire ARE feasible with 1960s vintage screw terminal equipment
On the interconnect front, Neutrik/Rean NYS352G (metal barrel) and NYS352BG (black barrel) gold plated RCA plugs will fit into the tightest of spacing situations. Use Mogami W2549 twin conductor + shield cabling between RCA plugs. When space permits, use Canare F-10 RCA plugs. All of the above can be sourced from MarkerTek (http://www.markertek.com) at nice prices.
BTW, Canare F-09 RCA plugs will fit into many, but not all, tight situations and they are nicer than the OK Neutrik/Rean stuff. MarkerTek has F-09s too.

Thanks, that is very useful information.
For speaker connection, I use Signal Cable. They will terminate the cable with small spades that will fit old amps like Scott and McIntosh.
