Hi,
I just got my Sherwood S5000 II back from Mikey Samra(looks to be he did a great job) and I wanted to know what I can use on the speaker connectors to allow me to use my speaker wire or is there a speaker wire I should buy that would attach to the original screws? The screws are really close together.
Thanks!
Paul

I made these up... banana jacks and some small stakon connectors. They work great.
Thanks Paul
That means a lot and I making those cables up as we speak..

Xaudiomanx, I may get laughed off here but I have screw connectors on my Dyna ST-35. I made my own speaker cables with Radio Shack 18 guage solid core hook up wire, red and black,to make things easier. I twisted them every 2 inches or so as not to act like an antenna (helix),like the cables you see in the Mapleshade catalog. Theres not really any better connection when making a small loop at the end and tightening that screw down tight and making sure that screw is clean, shiny, and bright. This idea was from a Stereophile article 10 years ago and they did include it in class C or whatever in there annual best of issue, I'll dig it out if you don't believe me, and it's cheap...take care...Mark Korda
I just use bare wire twisted. Long enough to wrap around the screw and not get any insulation under the head or the screw. As an alternative, hit someplace and get some gold plated spade lugs. When I use the spades, I add a star or lock washer under the screw to make sure there is tension to prevent the screw from backing off.

In addition to the connectors already shown, other options are available.
Vampire #BAR spade lugs should be examined. They are intended for use on barrier strips, which are not too different from the screw connector strips found on 1960s tube equipment.
Mouser carries Pomona brand adapters that screw into strip connectors, which allow banana plugs to be confidently used. While these Pomona adapters are not gold plated, they may well be the best answer to a vexing problem. Notice that you get to do the red/black color coding thing.

There are a few vendors on ebay that sell such adapters.
You say that you have received your Sherwood S-5000 back from Mike Samra, great news! Mikey texted me a couple of days ago that my S-5000/7189 will be on my rack in a week.
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
I recall about a month ago on the tube/DIY forum you were calling Mike's credibility into question. A public "dressing down" deserves a public apology - Doncha think?
It seems that all is well that ends well eh.
........I was a vegetarian for 15 minutes... until the main course.
Thanks for the response.
My personal issues with anybody are just that. Personal! You all went after me without knowing the facts and that's fine. I do have a thicker skin than most. Don't stir up anything unnecessary.
And for the record I didn't get a chance to listen to it before he got it as when I bought it went directly to him for modification. So I really can't compare how it sounds now as to before but I'm sure it is as he describe if not better. And NO! I didn't get a chance to use it yet.
Please be patient. I am sure you will appreciate your amp as soon as you get appropriate adapters.
By the way, I managed to connect Silverline speaker cables with wide spades to the screw-type terminals of my recently acquired Eico ST-40. The screws just get hold of the ends of the spades, and I am not sure whether the contact is good or not, but it sounds good.
If you have speaker cables terminated with spades, you may experiment.
One observation - the amp must be placed onto the top shelf of your rack (if you use a rack). For some reason, I could not get proper connection when I placed the amp on the second shelf.
A lot of that was my fault Stace.I was not with it and Paul has been a great friend for years and he has a heart of gold and I say that with no exaggeration..I was dysfunctional the last couple months and I should have been more adamant about getting someone to answer in my behalf but I always figured it would be a couple more days and I would be better and than wasn't. I appreciate your support Stace along with Paul and the rest of the forum...
