Sorry, can't take a pic now but I got a mono Heathkit amp. It has four knob across the front. 1) Selector [mag phono, tuner, ceramic phono], volume, bass and treble with on/off incorporated with it. the three inputs are on the bottom. It has 4,8 and 16 ohm taps. The case is black and the only label is on the bottom by the RCA inputs but just says "Heathkit amplifier". I see a few tubes including 2- EL84 but haven't taken it apart yet. Works well and sounds nice. I got it with an Eico HFT-90 that also works fine.
It has the same knob layout as a AA-161 but has the cabinet style more like an SA-2. If anyone knows of a catalog database or something I could look there.
Well in researching for this post I think I figured it out. I'm betting it is an EA-3, no I'm sure. Well it could be an EA-2 but I figure that out when I get schematics. See link. Looks neat.

\:^) Just kidding.
Heathkits were some of the most wonderful things in the world.
I have several later solid state Heathkits and they sound great.

The EA2 has white plastic knobs.
The EA3 has black.
There are some minor circuit differences.
Same tube complement for each.
I had a set of EA3s and made them into power amps.
They are essentially the same circuit as the UA1 UA2.
With help from Jim McShane, updated them.

but I digress ;-)
White/black knobs, eh? Well... I dunno... that's a little subtle for some o f us!
;-)
all the best,

Unintentionally my best post on AA.
thanks mrh

... I have a lot of Heathkit catalogs :-)
You probably already know about the Heathkit museum: http://www.heathkit-museum.com/hvmhifi.shtml
The other somewhat helpful site I know of is: http://www.nostalgickitscentral.com/
In terms of Heathkit IDs in general (IMO, of course), there are a couple of problems:
Heathkit had several models that looked the same but were different under the hood. I have a mono integrated Heathkit (with no tubes) but I am not sure if it is an EA-2 or an EA-3 (which, and I am trusting my feeble memory here) have somewhat different tube complements.
Heathkit also had models that looked different but WERE the same! They would periodically update cosmetics but not change (AFAIK) anything under the hood.
Still, it's all reasonably cool stuff!
all the best,
mrh
Thanks for that. Gotta love that cover. I found that it is either an EA-2 or EA-3. I found both schematics and will need to open it up as there are two or three part differences that will let me determine which it is.

I have an "either an EA-2 or an EA-3", too (as I think I mentioned in my previous post) -- sans tubes makes it a little more challenging to suss out (not that I have ever actually TRIED... someday... someday...)!
So, I just checked, and here's what I have on those two amps:
EA-2 (through 1959):
EA-3 (late 1959 onwards):

(in another life, I'd have probably been a swell librarian!)
all the best,

I looked at both schematics and there are a few changes that will allow easy ID. Let me give you the link to the schematics.

one of many projects I should really get back to someday...
all the best,
