These look to be rather interesting old speakers with a brand name of
Fonovox Speakers. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this brand of speakers?
I am not trying to help sell them,& I am not interested in buying them as well.I would just like to learn more about them speakers!

The black placard says they have an 8" Norelco coax driver, plus 2 dynamic speakers and that they are made by the Victrola XXXX Corp. in New York State. They are the model X200. That is all I can make out. Actually a full range with a whizzer is often wrongly called a coax, and that is what I think is in there. I have a pair and they are nice full-range speakers, but I would not pay stupid money for them. The other problem is that your really have no idea what is in these. The could have been changed out. Without a picture if the inside, who know?

So, a German company that has its systems also made in Montreal Quebec and NY. Sounds like they may have been shipping kits to avoid import duties that were common and rather high in those days.

Hi Brian,
I doubt those heavy cabinets were cheap to ship. That may have also been a factor.

BTW, did you get my email response to your query about the sale? Seems your email addresses here and on the other vintage Site are incorrect or out of date as both bounced.
How are you doing with the subject item. Does it look like you might end up with it?
Mind finally lost to the Sony STR6120 using the Wharfedale W70s and KLH Fives but it fell to both the Sherwood SEL200 and S9500c/S3300 amp and tuner. Strange result as usually the finalists in shootouts have been the Sony and one we wrote about. And depending on speaker each switches places as the better. I guess it just shows that in this hobby any kind of general statement has to be suspect and it is too subjective, boiling down to synergies and personal tastes and experiences in the end. The Klipsch lost to the Fives in this go around, also.

Never heard of but guessed they were Germany origin from the cabinet design and finish. Web search seems to turn up there was a connection between the company and Loewe, a German electronics company making radio and tube audio and another Site has a pair with a label for a Fonovox company in Montreal, it may have been the Canadian distributor.
