...I can tell you it's a nice piece and an excellent time capsule item for someone decorating their home in MCM style. But obviously the seller has a delusion about price. Worth about $200-250 because of the condition of the walnut. I see vintage period consoles go for about that. The stereo is of secondary importance. (Most stereo consoles you can't give away, especially if SS).

Agreed, decent cabinet foul electronics. 200-250 on a good day with the right buyer. Nowhere near what he is asking.

Weirdly, people like the sound of those old consoles, mainly because of nostalgia. Their parents had one when they were growing up, it was when they first 'discovered' music, that overly-warm midrange with no extreme highs or lows. It brings back memories; emotions rate higher than "audiophile quality" sound. The vintage toy racket (1950s Barbies etc) works on the same principle, nostalgia for childhood. It's all good.
Then there's the question: have you actually heard one of these? I had a GE tube wallmount console (SE 6BQ5) that sounded very good.
Sermon complete. Carry on, men.
