This was done with a line of LPs from Riverside Records called "Fortissimo" way back in the '60s.

Why do you think, or what is the reasoning behind this "reverse" play? Wouldn't it wreak havoc with auto lift and start tables?
Best,
Dave
No wonder why I could never get the darn thing to play! The tonearm would immediately fall off the record. :)
I wonder what would happen if played on a driven tonearm such as a Rabco SL8E. Would it work if you turned the battery around? ;)

Brian,
You probably be clued in by the horrible sound and the vinyl shavings curling off of the record.

Anti-skate is not affected by this. It doesn't matter whether the arm is moving 0.005" toward the center or 0.005" toward the rim with each revolution.
The Rabco SL8-e would not work at all, as the micro-switch that triggers the motor only closes when the arm is pulled toward the center of the record. However, the later Rabcos that used rollers to maintain tangentiality would do just fine, as would the various air-bearing tangential arms.

the arm finally contacted the limit of the lift bracket/bail. It would then continue to skip and repeatedly play the same groove until you could no longer stand it.
The Rabco SL8E servo can only operate when the record is played from the outer groove inward.
I hope that I got it right. I have two of these records, but I am leaving them sealed for gifts to my son and son-in-law who don't have the Rabco SL8E like me.
