I've never seen an AKAI like that one. Early 1970s, I'm guessing. I'd suspect it was even older - but the slide controls didn't become fashionable until the first half of the '70s.
It appears cosmetically excellent.
I'd guess that "65 watts" is an IHF/Music Power spec - pre-FTC mandate for 'continuous watts' in 1974. Still, 65 watts IHF into 8 ohms is probably ca. 35 to 40 watts continuous.

Thanks for the input! I found it interesting as well thats why I posted it here! Not sure if I should go for it or not? What did you think of the sound quality of the Akai's you have heard? Here's a picture of the actual back of the unit!
Never have seen that model but have had my hands on others when I worked for Framers and they were not half bad, in the class as most of the Japanese units of that time, late 60s.
Whether to go for it is a valid decision only you can make. You do not mention the asking price. Considering the visual condition which looks good I tend to try to figure out a range that I can justify as worth the risk. In the case of the unit, it is hard to tell but, it looks like it has a set of jumpers on the back indicating the amp can be separated from the preamp, for me a big plus to justify a bigger risk. I have found Akai seemed to do decent preamps possibly because of their involvement in recorders so, it might make an interesting tuner/preamp or, like the H-K x30 series have a good power amp section, either being worth the price.
I have found quite a few nice units that fly under the popular vintage gear radar.

Thanks for all the information! The asking price is $80.00 or OBO which I would ask 75.00!
I see stuff on CL all the time that I am tempted to buy, but if I am on the fence I hold off and watch to see if it gets re-listed a few times. If it does, then I make an offer. In this situation, I'd offer $50 after it has been re-listed at least twice.
I think its probably a curiosity more than anything else. But, maybe you get lucky and it sounds good too !

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
Thanks for the advice!
but my sanity in matters of hifi in general, and odd/vintage hifi in particular, is questionable at best.
AKAI electronics of the 1970s was pretty decent sounding if not particularly popular (in the US). Their tape decks were popular, but not so much so were their amplifiers, tuners, and receivers.
all the best,
