Can't resist showing you guys what I found... I learned that for the show they added the handle and the antenna for effect, but this was the very model that sailed into history, a Packard-Bell AR-851:

Nice
I have a few pocket radios in my vintage collection but that's about it.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
Hi Peter, great site or find.In one episode of Gilligans Island,Rory Calhoun was a hunter that set foot on the island to hunt the ultimate game, man...which ended up to be Gilligan. To assure him not being caught he displayed to the castaways the tubes he took out of the white radio, even though it's a transistor radio. In another episode the radio voice is John Facenda, the deep barreled voice of the first NFL films. The first radio was a different radio with 6 channels, short wave and such. That was an earlier black and white Gilligans episode. I get a lot of crap for still watching Gilligans Island today at 57, but are there any sexier gals in the world than Mary Ann and Ginger?.....great find Peter!...Mark Korda
even Mrs Howell is starting to look good too...........

I bet we all wanted a combination of Mary Ann and Ginger though.
Oh, come on, every guy knows you look at Ginger for a bit, but you marry Mary Anne. You look at the Vernonicas, but you marry Betty.....
As stereophilez the only thing we should be noticing is the radio. So sayeth she who must be obeyed, my wife.

Anyone who hasn’t seen them in a while might enjoy them more than they might think. I hadn’t realized how funny Bob Denver could be.
Mike Korda, here's an info link on Gilligan's Island's radio. Including the original radio which was only used in CBS' publicity photos. Keepin' it radio-centric, only women sexier than Ginger-n-Mary Ann are WKRP's Jennifer Marlowe-n-Bailey Quarters. U.S.S. Enterprise's Lt. Nyota Uhura was otherworldly beautiful, also. Used to have a poster of Nichelle Nichols from TOS' "Mirror Mirror" episode. 73s para Sactown.
