Previously, if I had seen one at the flea market I wouldn't have paid five bucks for it. Bet I never find one.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
As the owner of a 1969 Camaro, I've never quite understood the reason for putting a mediocre music system from the past into a vintage car given how much better sound reproduction for autos is today.

Actually as these are rare and a factory option as well as represented as complete and in its condition I think the price is very reasonable. This is especially so when persons pay huge bucks for plebian steroids equipment just because of its name.

My title is "when thing are rare" so I acknowledge its rarity. It is complete but rusty and completely pitted and has barely $20 in parts inside. It's not worth near that until you factor in rarity and have several fighting for one. So you missed my point. I fully understand how supply and demand affects price which is my point. Supply and demand is the same reason some gold coins sell for a little over the price of raw gold and some for ten even hundreds of times higher. It's also the same reason the highest rent in the US is in North Dakota now.

Exactly. If you have a mint 1967 Camaro worth tens of thousands, a few hundred for a rare factory option is nothing. This has nothing to do with the sound; it is about having the factory options.
