Perfect timing on your post. However, I will be doing some small touch-up work. I talked to one of the local auto paint suppliers last week about trying to match the paint on my Model 7. I will be taking the top panel to them for a scan. My paint is in excellent condition except where someone substituted screws for the 2 upper shock mounts. There are chips where the screw heads contacted the paint surface. Unfortunately the original style acorn nuts and washers will not cover the chips. I will use a small artist's brush and try to fill in the chipped area.

Follow Ups:
Got an email from Richard Links (Marantz Guy on AA). He made up some paint years ago but is out.
He says the paint used was a hammer tone taupe.
If you can match that color and unusual finish please, please let me know, as I would be in for a quart maybe two, and that would make the painter a lot more receptive to making a match ! Hell if he can match the paint, I'll pay for it and you can take the touch up you need for free !
My local auto shops can not duplicate the hammer tone finish.

I apologize for the delay in a followup post. With the top panel of my 7C in-hand, I visited the paint supply shop in person and got the same response. They said that the finish could not be duplicated with their products.
Since then I have found an alternative that I think will get very close to the taupe hammer tone, if not exact. I have looked at the line of Rustoleum Hammered paints available in quart cans. If you look at the technical sheet, they can be thinned with xylene and sprayed. There are 3 colors that I think would be contenders for a recipe to create taupe: Brown, Gray, and Gold. I cannot find the brown and gray locally, so I am waiting for Home Depot to restock their "on-line" store. Amazon has all of these, but more expensive.

I guess I'll be doing the same thing you are suggesting
