running for say between 5-8 hours per night on constant shuffle? I would guess its not good for the caps ??
Follow Ups:
Where I used to work there was a mid-fi Pioneer CD player with a 6cd cartridge used for music on hold. It ran 24/7 for at least 5 years. It was still working fine when it was replaced with a music server. I never imagined an inexpensive consumer deck would run that long.
Don't worry about it.
If it is not for critical listening, consider purchasing an inexpensive CD player. Or a cheap DVD player that has shuffle play. Amazon sells Sony DVD players for as little as $33. See the link below. (I tried to check the DVP-SR210's manual to see if it has shuffle play, but Sony's online support is down at the moment.)Edit: The Sony DVP-SR210P's online manual indicates the unit has shuffle play.

I have noticed DVD players generate a lot of mechanical noise for some reason?
None of the DVD players I've owned were mechanically noisy when playing, although I never purchased a cheapie unit.
I have noticed that some of the lightweight Blu-ray players can generate noise when loading a disc, but are quiet from a few feet away when playing.
Enjoy it and use it. Don't invest a lot of money in CDP's. They are mechanical and do have a working "life span". I've gone through three already. And I can't remember how many DVD players?charles
addendum: have you considered a iPod connection? Sounds just as good as CDs and no moving parts.

Caps should be fine. I'd be more concerned about simple wear and tear on the mechanics. But I guess it depends on how many months/years you plan to be doing this, and what condition the CD player is in to begin with. For example, the lubricants in really old players can dry out, causing excess wear and eventual failure. (I have a Sony CDP-101 - the original CD player from 1983 - and the grease in its gears had dried out. I cleaned it and used white lithium grease to get it running again.)
to play and such well.
