Talking about black plastic rubbish from the 90s?
If it didn't sound good when it was new, how's gonna sound now?

Like I said in other posts. I dont rank this as the equivalent of a tube Marantz. Just thought it was a neat build for its time and retail price.
But youll be seeing more of this caliber of gear referred to as vintage. Culture shock to me too I assure you. But its reality.
If only there was an endless supply of the true golden era gear. But alas, this aint wonderland alice :-)
Ill turn my nose up too if it makes ya feel better :-)
Some audio is "good vintage" from it's introduction; like some fine wines. I am staying neutral about the OP unit.
However, maybe we should have a solid state vintage asylum plus a tube vintage asylum ? In the same fashion, we should have a vinyl forum for records and a vinyl forum for turntables...
How can you tell if it sounds good or not, from just looking at it, must have telepathic hearing....
My response to Otis was factious. I agree with you, you have to hear to decide. And, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
For real though man, when I saw it I was thinking of you and yer love for this era Kenwood stuff. That and when I noticed the other build qualities.
All that being said, as others have pointed out. Often this type of gear can be bested by the likes of 70s era SS gear thats been properly serviced. Not to say its eaten alive but there often is a lush fuller sound to such counter parts.
Please dont think I or many others are trying to coldly dismiss this stuff as junk. I really dont feel that way at all. To be honest, if I or anyone else, had never heard other higher end gear, Id never be the wiser. The fact is, I own, and have heard better. But this kinda stuff is fine too. To me, an item like this JVC can bring one 70% of the way to top shelf listening. And that says allot. Its when you jump those extra 10% increments that you start hearing more and more. Personally Id guess Ive heard / own in the 90% bracket. One simply has to acknowledge theres some real CRAZY high end amazingly engineered stuff out there. Stuff I and many others will never hear / own. And thats fine by me. Im totally happy with what Ive got and hear. No feeling of loss by me :-)
I was half tempted to offer this puppy to ya for my cost and shipping if it tripped yer trigger :-) Again, your recent posts got my gears grinding about it!
All the best man
Dave
