Limited power handling on the drivers or not... the Newer ones will have to go!
Time to ship them to the pawn shoppe. FOREVER...

It really isn't a matter of new vs. old. As with anything audio it is all a matter of matching. Also a major factor with new is quality. They do make some pretty cheap stuff that looks really good. So a lot of research must be done prior to buying.
I use a pair of NEW Monitor Audio RX-2. They are large bookshelf style with an 8" composite metal woofer and gold metal dome tweeter. The woofer is very light, fast and has good bass. Honestly I find them to sound extremely good.
I think the opposite - you would be hard pressed to find a better vintage speaker of this type.
What I would consider to be the best speaker design of all time is the 10" woofer and 1" tweeter. this design was used for the Dynaco A-25, Advent, JBL, etc...
If you are handy you can easily make a pair being there is vertually no crossover components. Simple and clean sounding with very little coherence issues found in multiple driver systems.
My Monitor Audio RX2 ROCK with both new and old amps.

yes a lot of new speakers do sound great. Most are well out of my price range, and I vowed to not even think about adding another speaker.
Owning speakers can be addicting, especially if you find another set that sounds as good or if not better than what you had before.
I was just saying my vintage speakers sound better to my ears than most of the newer ones I have had, or still have. Therefore if i had to downsize, youd have to pry the vintage speakers from my cold dead hands.
I once saw a pair of large Dynaco bookshelf speakers at salvation army once but that was before i knew what good stereo was.
I managed to find my Sony SS440s for the second time I remeber seeing a pair at a thrift store in 2008 before that, and I wanted to replace my bookshelf speakers that caught on fire.
But I had no way to ship them home so I couldnt get them. When I did they was gone
then in 2011 I saw another pair at the same thrift so I grabbed them and put them in the cart in which they barely fit.
They had a marantz amp but it was burned up..

They are supposedly Technics sb-100000.
When problems become increasingly difficult,we can always rely on our collective knowledge and seek relief.
I have only seen it in pictures. I did see that same horn tweeter on a speaker that had a cone midrange. I don't think they were sold in this country and the one I saw was a war bride.

these probably merit their own new top post!
