My DIY equipment rack is now ready for the shelves.
I must now decide weather I want 1" thick solid aluminum shelves from the Boeing Surplus Supply Yard, OR -1" thick clear acrylic shelves from a supplier. Four all nicely polished, 17"X20 1/2" acrylic shelves will cost me $240.00. The Aluminum will be rough cut and I will have to do all the trimming and polishing myself, but it will be cheaper, I'm sure.Come-on folks, my new rack is waiting, but I can't wait, advise please!
Follow Ups:
Boeing Surplus Supply Yard? if they have 1" thich aluminum plate they should also have 1" aluminum honeycomb which is what all aircraft companies use to build equipment racks for aircraft, also much liter and even stronger.
Marble tile. I went to my local tile store and found a few left over 24 x 24 x 1/2 inch pcs. They were more than happy to cut them. Very stiff material no sanding or buffing. Looks good if you have a girlfriend / wife factor to consider.
and you may want to oven-paint the aluminium plates ?
How stiff is the aluminium plate ?
my $0.02
But I see a lot of work in trimming, buffing, and polishing, -no paint.
