Hi all,I have now listend to this modded unit for a good while. It is very good. Stock (and old) it sounded quite good, pace, timing and genral tonality was good, but the ability of Vinyl for realism was missing. Still, it is one of the first "Stock" condition Digital equipment pieces from any larger, non specialist manufacturers I encountered.
The modifications I did so far left the strength of the unit intact, but helped where I felt it was let down. What I did is detailed here:
http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/tweaks/messages/39504.html
I find that the unit is in many ways close to the non oversampling DAC using TDA1541, safe the fact that a certain edginess remained and that the soundstage was neither as deep and wide nor as focused. Yesterday my friend Jon (not Risch) commented that (using our usual Test CD's) this was "the best he had ever heard my system".
Well that was untill I added my "Mezzoforte" interconnects. These are RG-214 and have build in line a variation of Tony Taddeos original passive, RLC based "Digital Antidotes". This successfully dealt with the edgy sound and placed the soundstage where it belongs. Of course, in a lot of ways the Digital Antidote undoes in an analogue way what the digital filter does, so it is in many wasy close to Non Oversampling in sound.
I still feel the non oversampling TDA 1541 DAC with the Valve analogue stage is better, but not that much. I hope this helps a little.

Follow Ups:
Thorsten,Id love one of these DACs (cash and availability prevent :() But I would be interested in the digital antidote - a search has failed to reveal much of anything about the nature of this circuit? Can you point me in the right direction?
Cheers
Tim
BTW - tried your UBYTE mains cable - works a treat :)
Hi,All schematics and values are in the patent, I only use the passive version.

Thanks Thorsten, good of you to look that up.Interstingly I've found the patent too (different site). Any suggestions as to various values I should use?
Cheers
Tim
Sorry - only just read rest of it - it suggests values.Cheers
Tim
Hi,The circuit is in the Patent.... You used to be able to search the Patens at the IBM site for free, this is now a subscription service I think.... Look for the Inventor Taddeo.
