I ended up buying a titanium cone/spike puckie that I inserted into my girlfriend's cello endpin stop--the black plastic thing on the floor that keeps the endpin from sliding. Result, same as audio, her cello has cleaner bass (less smearing)and the mids are fuller and more resonant.
I also used his damping sheet cut into half inch squares and glued to my acoustic guitar body for the same reasons and with the same results. Bought a turntable mat, too. All excellent products--don't forget you can return it if you don't like it.

Ric...I am so glad you shared the story of girlfriend's cello endpin. The physics at play for one application apply to the other. Your story is anecdotal evidence of that. Great creative application of the damping sheet. Does your guitar still have the woody resonance as it did before damping? My favorite guitar recordings capture the pluck of the string and the woody richness of the guitar's body, in much the same way as a great piano recording has the bell-like clarity of the hammer's attack and then the rich harmonics of the wooden soundboard.
As you stated, with Herbie's Audio Lab there is NO risk. If you try something and it doesn't improve the sound of your system they will accept the product back with a full refund.
"dimensional purity"
Yeah, Hi, I would say yes, the guitar is still woody, but, as can happen with speakers there is some tradeoff when your ear is used to a bassier smearing affect that gets (more) removed with the new application. Before using Herbie's, I had A/B'd my guitar with Vibrapods and blue tack and my ears always preferred the sound of the guitar, as compared to the sound of the guitar where my body acted as (unwanted) damping with the contact points being my knee, chest and right arm. Using the damping "cubes" may look bizarre, but for me the sound is more important than the look.
I would like to see this application happening more, and there are other products for guitars (and cellos) but I doubt if they work as well. Thanks for your interest!
