When ordering a custom toroidal power transformer for a top grade power amp, what are the most important technical factors to have into account in order to obtain maximun sonic performance?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Regardless, on this subject you might consult some good books, like the Morgan Jones book, for a modern view, or the Radiotron Designer's Handbook, for a classic view.
In the no-brainer category, you need to figure out what DC voltage(s) you want to end up with and what sort of rectification and filtering you will use; those both affect the value of the AC voltage you need to appear at the secondaries of the power transformer in order to hit the targeted DC voltage. And then you need to have a very good idea of the current you will be needing to run the circuit. Once you know that it is beneficial to over-rate the transformer so far as the current requirement, by a factor of 2X to 3X, if you're going for best results regardless of cost.
The factors I was talking about in my first message are the following:
- Regulation
- Mechanical noise
- Winding resistances
- Radiated magnetic field
- Temperature rises
- Uniformity of the winding for primary and secondaries
- Isolation between primary & secondary windings (electrostatic screen)
- Quality of the grain-oriented electrical steel sheet used for the core
Which of these factors are the most important, as far as POWER transformers is concerned, if maximum sound quality is desired?
