In Reply to: RE: Bamboo (Ikea Aptitlig) vs MDF as platforms for floorstanders posted by Awe-d-o-file on June 10, 2016 at 16:27:37
Thanks everyone.@Awe-d-o-file...I do have 8 herbies big fat dots which I am using for something else. Did try it on my speakers....speakers (no spikes) on big fat dots...on MDF platform flat... on floor. I think one of the dots is slightly thinner but I just couldn't stop the speaker it was under to stop wobbling a little. So I scraped that idea a few months ago.
Btw Guys... I am assuming that Bamboo is a lot denser than MDF. Is being denser desirable in this application? Marble or any type of stone...I heard could result in a brighter tone...any truth to it?

I have my big fat black dots under 185 pound speakers with no problem. Email Steve and I bet he takes care of you. Also since you have spikes I was wanting you to try the dots between the mdf and the floor. I dont like the idea of the mdf direct on the floor. Maybe its not an issue but Id try something even a towel if thats all I had.

@awe-d-o-file. Just a quick question. In this a application...ie...floorstanders on spikes on mdf or bamboo platforms on big fat dots on floor......would the big fat dots serve as couplers or decouplers? Read that I should be looking into coupling, however big fat dots are more of a decoupler? Thanks agsin.Anyone else can chime in? Thanks

I was thinking those budget isol-pads under the platform.
Maple would probably be best but pricey. Take a look at isolation platforms at Timber Nation.
Ive looked that whole site over, great stuff

Did you look at prices? Their isolation platforms are quite reasonable, for what appears to be very high quality.
