Hello Inmates, I have been reading all the very positive reviews on the Auric Illuminator CD treatment. One comment on their website gives me pause: It says for optimal performance, the gel should be reapplied for each playing! So, in other words it treats up to 400 cds for ONE DAY! Has anybody using this product notice a degradation in improvement after only a day? Or does it last a long time and the manufacturer just wants to sell more product? Would love to hear from any users of this product. Thank you!! Greg "Harley" Walsh

I use to treat my CDs with this until I used a program for Liteon PC drives that that reported read errors and they were always up after a treatment.

Thanks! DannyR.
Guys,
I have a small crack in one of my CDs. Is there a product that can "patch" the crack? Then, a product to buff/smooth is out?
If it still plays, burn a new copy. If it doesn't, buy a new copy. Not sure any form of patching wouldn't totally trash it.

One of my CDP's is an old temperamental Pioneer Elite 93.
( yes, it's 25 yrs. old) If it did't sound so good, I would have retired by now. But bottom line....it still sounds excellent to my ear. Nonetheless, it's had issues reading a few CD's or CDR's in the last couple years. One day I made a copy of a CD that the Pioneer wouldn't play as an experiment. The Pioneer played the copy with no issue. I repeated the experiment with the other 4 or 5 CD/CDR's that it refused to play and all the copies played just fine.

Thanks! for sharing- MW.
Thanks! MW.
Auric Illuminator introduces the impression of a three-dimensional sound difference that is initially seductive. The sonic effect of that milky film on the CD surface degrades very quickly and then has to be completely removed/ re-applied before the next play/ even next day. I bought bottles of the stuff from different sources trying to get the freshest batch and eliminate the source of differing results. However the seductive effect quickly proved to be just an add-on effect so Auric Illuinator was changing the sound rather than accessing more of the details and musicality of the original CD recording.
I tested most of the products out there and found 'Liquid Resolution' by Xtreme AV to be markedly the best liquid cleaner/ enhancer to assist the laser in reading the recording from the CD without adding an effect of its own. Brian is no longer with us so I do not know who produces and markets 'Liquid Resolution' now. If you have developed a good ear from listening over time, such a product makes a significant difference. If not, you may be unable to hear the difference so save yourself the time, trouble and cost.
where do you buy Liquid Resolution?
Fanja,
Google does not indicate a source for the $99.00 'Liquid Resolution' but the $150 'Essence of Music' product is almost as good although 50% more expensive. The link below lists the 14 U.S. dealers for the latter. When the cost rises to 50 cents per CD play, the product is for those with good ears who are either rich audiophiles or those ripping CDs for a one-time permanent digital copy in my opinion.

Perfect..thank you. That actually makes good (common) sense.
I'm curious. I don't use a CD player. I copy my CDs into my computer and play them back that way. Would CD treatment of any kind - - AURIC, L'ART, etc. - - enhance my sound when I do it this way?
Yes....as does demagnetizing and deionizing (in succession), if you choose to go in those directions.
To obtain the optimal results, you would want to hold the CD with one hand (just the fingers / thumb on the edge) for each step so you do not change the 'state' of the CD before you do the rip. Every time we pick up and put down a CD, we're changing its electrical state (static, etc.), so by keeping a continuous hold on the CD, its state remains. And yes, I've heard the differences.
I don't understand the physics of what's going on here, but I will certainly try it. Thanks.
I guess you could treat a cd that you already downloaded and compare the two. I'd be curious to see if there is a difference. Of course, you'd still have to buy the treatment!
My choice...
No affiliation etc. just a happy consumer.
Two spray bottles last a lifetime.
I second the Brillianize. Very good tweak. Great on speaker wires also. Don't know how long it lasts. Tweaker
TY- Tweaker.
My personal choice for cleaning discs. I find that the treatment also enhances the sound.
Works great for cleaning/polishing any type of plastics. I also find it to give the best results for cleaning my computer monitor screen.
My experience is applying any fluid and then polishing it with a cloth makes the initial presentation dull sounding. My guess is some static build up? I usually apply and let them sit a day. So, I would not apply before every play. There are also other processes that are effective in the treatment of CD's IMO.
I moved on from Auric Illuminator years ago. Still have the kit/product though. With that said, would never go through the hassle of applying it before every play. If that is truly what's needed for optimum performance, it will continue to rest in my "audio relic" closet. When I use a CD treatment these days, it's L'ART du SON.
Thanks for you reply Mike. I figure even if it did work, I'd always be wondering if is still working or gradually faded away (Audio Nervosa!!). There's no way in hell I'm going thru that process every day. I do believe that it has been improved upon in recent years. I read it somewhere today, but can't recall where.
Yep, when I'm spending more time buffing CDs than actually listening to music, it's time to evaluate my sanity. Which probably needs evaluating anyway.
LOL, no kidding. I just heard back from an email I sent to Auric, and he confirmed it should be done every time for best results. The price is up, too. $40 to $50, plus $7 dollars shipping.
Retreatment after every play??? That's pretty ridiculous, IMO--and I have an unusually high threshold for ridiculousness! Or at least I did.
I used Auric Illuminator for about six months many years ago, and I ultimately found several products I considered significantly better. Never revisited it after that.
I now use Ultrabit Diamond Plus, which has been my reference for a while. George Louis can strike some as the lunatic fringe, but he makes a great CD treatment.
haven't seen any of his posts here in ages.
Thank goodness!
Happy to hear he makes a good product.

No such silliness with L'Art and the cost is around $55(treats 200 CDs) from Elusive Disc. A friend with a truly big buck system recommended this stuff to me years ago. Also a favorite of the late HP. Seems like the Auric fellow thinks he will sell a lot more product this way, but I think it will result in quite the opposite. No one I'm aware of will want to clean/polish a CD before every play.
