hello all, what sealed enclosure volume should be used for volt sb220.1 ? the manufacturer recommends 20ltr but surely thats for active use with eq right ? can anyone help me out here ? as this is for a medium/large size passive two way floorstander build.

They recommend it more for a sub. The driver rolls off at 1K so it's more suited for a three way. Not too many tweeters can be crossed that low, usually just horns.As to the recommended 20 L size for a sealed box design it's based on how the woofer functions not how it is driven.

Plan on using a sub with those?. If so the 20 ltr. will be fine.
If not, I'd use more volume, 25-30 ltr. You can email them and
have them calculate it for you...a -3 at 40-45 Hz. is a good point.
Myself, I'd use the ported 35 ltr. to get the -3 at 36 Hz. No sub
needed there.

is the 20ltr sealed a suggestion for 53hz response rather then achieving anything lower ? and are they saying a large 40-50ltr sealed enclosure is not suggested for a reason ? it would be nice to have other size enclosure responses before buying them. i guess emailing them is gonna be the next move

Too bad they don't include frequency response charts for prospective builders. Remember that in a closed box, the roll off after resonance is 2nd order. In a ported box it's 4th order. While 53Hz sounds kind of high compared to the ported box, the net result may be pretty close anyway. Download a free ware, WinISD and model both boxes. That should give you a good idea what to expect. Another suggestion, if you're going to get a sub plate amp, get one with a bass boost. That will also help boost the lower end.

thanks for that software recommendation i need to make space on the laptop to use it but it'll be handy for sure.
I'm curious if there might be a particular reason why you would choose to use an 8" driver intended and optimized for a subwoofer application for use as a woofer in a 2-way floorstander. I wouldn't expect the driver to perform satisfactorily at frequencies well above its designated function as a bass driver.
Yes I mentioned that too. Everyone else seems to have missed that including the OP. It's a deal breaker really unless a horn that goes low is used for HF. Yuck.

I agree, Awe-d-o-file. Typical 8" woofers tend to perform poorly for a 2-way loudspeaker design, since midrange beaming occurs well below that of a typical 2-way crossover point. It's a substantial trade-off to use an 8" woofer if an extended or enhanced bottom end is desired, since a 6.5" midwoofer is better suited for a 2-way, and if the loudspeaker system is properly designed can produce substantial bass along with well-behaved upper midrange characteristics.
Where does the Volt info say anything about eq'ing the woofer in a sealed enclosure?

they don't but i cant imagine a subwoofer being built nowadays without it being active, hence eq'd especially builders settling for the 20ltr 53hz passive. i guess there only suggestions
Without equalization it seems too small to me. I'd prefer a lower resonance but what bothers me more is the Q of the system will be over 0.707 maximally flat which is the highest Q I'd use. There's too much chance of tubby mid bass for me.
