Like many others my listening room is also my two channel home theater.
It has always bothered me that having a 56inch big screen sitting between and a few feet back, was effecting my room acoustics, in a negative way.
Last year I ordered a 48" x 72" x 2" piece of acoustic foam. I cut it to be just a little longer and wider than the HDTV. I used some 2" wide velcro strips. The adhesive doesn't stick well to the foam, so I sewed the strips on, three of them. I placed velcro taps on the top lip of the TV, and three small velcro pieces on the front of my CD rack. So when I have the TV on, the foam is covering the CD rack, and out of the way. I also cut some black strips of fabric, to cover the adhesive part of the velcro straps that extend out from the foam. Makes it a little neater, and stops crap from sticking to the exposed adhesive.
For $35 and shipping costs, this was an acoutic tweak, we all can afford. For a little more money, you can get a thicker piece, but I have enough other acoustic treatments, that I just needed to get rid of that big reflective area, and the 2" does that.
If this has been discussed in the past, then I apologize, if not I hope it will give you an idea for a simple project.
Follow Ups:
I agree on this tweak, however, better still is to have nothing between the speakers. My separate video system is in a different room.
Better Soundstage? More controlled bass? Before it was ????, now it's ????, etc.
