They have been around for years...do a search. Metalized poly MKP type cap.
If they have a sonic advantage...likely not or they would have been hyped all to h***. These are relatively cheap. A good example I still know of are the Solen. Work wonders in speaker crossovers
Follow Ups:
Solen is probably the worst of all the many many caps I've tried in tweeter crossovers and coupling duty, with a brittle, shrill sound that is artificially detailed and bright. They are only slightly better for midrange, or decent value for large shunt caps in a crossover. Sorry to say there is no free lunch when it comes to caps. For coupling, film and foil is the best sounding, and they cost money because they're expensive to manufacture.
To the OP: I'm weary of posters coming here seeking the best sound and whining about their budget. If one can't afford better equipment, learn to accept compromise. A single cap or other component is not going to magically transform your thousand-dollar kit. You might realize modest improvements with a few better parts, but reset your priorities and try to be satisfied. Installing a $5 or $50 or $250 cap is not going to change your life.
Buy the best sounding cheap cap, which is Sonicap Gen I. Or just buy the Ruskies and come back here to tell us it's the cap of your dreams, but not based merely on something you read at HHHiFi.

Well madisonears, Is there some kind of general consensus that the Sonicap Gen I is a warm , full bodied intimate sounding cap and that it is the best? Some people find it bright and I believe Jeff also said that some find it bright. The number 1, shall I say NUMERAL UNO! thing I don't want is bright. There are a zillion caps out there these days and something called the internet which I use to seek info. There is a rather small number of caps that get reviewed as what I'm looking for and the Sonicap Gen I is not one of them. But, gee thanks anyhow. Tweaker
So helpful madisonears. I myself have found that a single or a few caps radically change my $2700 "kit". Are you saying that going from a cheap junk cap in a dac power supply to a Nichicon KW is not a "radical" change? Well IMHO it sure was a big change. There was a Ugggg improvement in my "thousand dollar kit with a dollar fifty cap." Great improvement in timbers. The other $2.50 spent on Nichicon ES and KZ caps in the dac upped the sound quality quite a bit more. A bunch of 7-$10 coupling caps to replace polyester caps is not going to be a "radical" improvement? Are you kidding? Not all film and foil caps are expensive. Very helpful. I grow weary of unnecessary criticism, bad information and advice. This site is only for rich people?? Who said I was looking for the best sound? A complete misreading. Your comments bring unnecessary controversy to a perfectly reasonable inquiry. Tweaker
I won't waste any more of my time responding to your swarm of semi-coherent posts.
By the way, "kit" is a mostly British idiomatic term for what we call a stereo, and timbers are pieces of wood.

When you post you get replies. You can't control what they will be. You can add fuel to the fire like you did-not good.

Let the bellows of reason and righteousness make the hot fire of irrationality and uncalled for insult burn out more swiftly. Now Awe-d this is your Q to point out the difference between using bellows and actually adding more fuel. More swiftly, hum , I wonder if that's grammatically correct? Tweaker
We're on the same page here.
