In Reply to: RE: Will I gain any advantage use a Placette volume controller over my DIY controller posted by airtime on February 01, 2016 at 07:00:27
Airtime, I listen almost 100% to live (free) streaming (Pandora, etc...). Unfortunately volume from one song to the next varied more than I cared for, and I got tired of getting up to adjust the volume. After looking at modding my preamp or the $1,000 device you are considering, I finally just bought a preamp with a built in remote control (ARC LS-17SE). Last I knew an ARC dealer in Ann Arbor has a closeout on a brand new one for $2,795 (list $5,500). My understanding is ARC is discontinuing this model, probably replace it with something else. Many other great preamps out there with the built in remote. Liked my old preamp, but I needed a remote control feature and the ARC was superior to what I had in performance.

That IS my situation. My streaming stations are very different in volume.
Like i said the DIY remote I cobbled together actually works. Because it works in a limited listening range level I use.
However I always wondered if the sound was being effected, ie variable impedance using my DIY vs. the Placette????
thanks

That streaming radio over the Internet is the limiting factor sound quality wise. What are the typical sampling rates?
ET
This is a rare feature in attenuators and contributes to SQ.
