I've been playing around with household romex for power cords. Solid core 3/14 gauge with ground and three color insulation ( red, black, white, ground un insulated). Using Leviton 5266 male ends and marinco IEC.
Tried hooking up normally: Hot=black, white=neutral, uninsulated=ground, red left dangling. Trying different permutations, the best sound with the clearest and most dynamic presentation was red=hot, white=neutral, black and ground tied together. Single ground wire was OK but doubling up seems to add a bit of "heft" to the sound.

Hi. Uncle Stu;
I just looked at one of Mapleshade's power cords. Maybe you could try the 2 grounds in the same config??? See link..
Thank you for ALL your ideas you post here!!!
Take care, and I hope you are feeling well....old guy
Hmmmm....wasn't aware of the mapleshade configuration.
I've noted before that more ground wire yields better bottom end (I guess the BGT and Bud's ground loop wires act in a similar manner).
Never thought to try it with four strand romex however. Caution, as you are ignoring standard UL coding.
Actually I was pleasantly surprise considering the lowly wire. Sounds better than a old pair of Siltech I have ( yikes, maybe it time to trade them in)
