Thanks. So I tried an experiment with uncle Dave and uncle Stu's help. At first I just took an available 9 volt (actually 1.5 v) battery wired up 2200 uf across it and put it in my audio pc. Wow not even to spec and I already liked it better than my baseline . So to do it right somewhat I got a fresh 9 volt wired up about 55000 uf (because that is all I had available) across it and it sounded dull. Worse than my baseline. So I am back to 1.4 volts with 2200uf and I am just enjoying it more. With more time to dabble I'll try 100000 uf across 9v.
Follow Ups:
Don't forget the bypass caps: Critical for performance. I use film caps about 1 to 2 UF for analog, and .15 uf for digital/video.Also lower voltages like lower capacitance, BTW. A big cap takes time to charge up

Put about 90Kuf on the BGT now and initially I did not like. But with time (thanks for reminding me Uncle Stu)I am beginning to like it. Very big, seems louder, very clear. Although I must say that my audio pc environment visually is getting very cluttered: separate ps for OS and data hd now this large clutter of caps for the usb bgt. On Computer Audiophile discussion of the Regen I see a post where one guy says a disrupted ground (infinite resistance, cut ground wire) sounds best but only after you make the handshake with the dac at pc boot up. So I can see fitting a switch in the ground circuit to appropriately be open or closed. But when does the clutter end.
Ok uncle Dave I have a bgt on my ssd ground and my data disc ground. Not a lot of uf but enough to make a positive sq improvement. Every bgt adds a degree of warmth and less grittiness, a little bit more dynamic and more pleasant to listen to. I'll experiment with more uf's later. Also I have had bgt's on my bass amp, gt's on my panel amp for a few years now.
I have a bgt on my ssd ground and my data disc ground. For clarity's sake (how is she BTW?), the drives BGT'd in theob's audio computer and the SSD in mine have their own PSUs, i.e. they're not powered by the motherboard's PSU.
Separate PSUs do IME make for a big improvement but adding a BGT seems to make things sound a bit smoother.

Took the plunge; one on my computer (9v, 10000mf cap, small bypass cap). Pleased with the results, though it does seem to make the computer battery drain a bit faster (I use an external battery to augment the internal one) -- or it could just be my imagination.
Did a lantern battery & 10000mf cap, small bypass cap & VERY pleased with the results there on the television.
Contemplating adding another 9v with cap there as well.
My dac has an external p/s; is it safe to put on there?
(You guys said not to use it on digital components; but this isn't a purely digital component)
You can use the BGT on digital just requires certain different set ups. I use more capacitance: up to a 100KuF and very small bypass caps (.15 or smaller depending on the cap). Silver wire also helps.
Remember the digital /video works at much higher frequencies so the smaller caps are necessary to clean the high frequency hash.I fnd copper wire, 50K uF and 1 to 2 uF bypass is plenty for analog
