Hi Lew
Thanks. No i do not hear any problem. No hum, nothing. I was wondering if having a magnetic shield around the motor would improve microdynamics.
Follow Ups:
Excess EMI will manifest itself in a constant background "grain".
AS Lew points out you will not realize it till you remove it.
That being said look at the magnetic field your cartridge has to work with. Small differences make for audible changes in fine detail and ambiance and in microdynamics.
Check out www.lessemf.com (no affiliation) for shielding materials. Ignore the mystical BS, but carefully read their application notes: quite useful and effective.
You might try it, nevertheless. I really did not perceive an issue with the L07D, until I actually installed the shield; blocking EMI raised the performance of the L07D by a noticeable amount, to my surprise. Depends on where the motor in an EMT idler is located, assuming 938 is an idler. DD's, like the L07D, and especially DD's with coreless motors built like that of the original Dual coreless motor (like the L07D), are especially susceptible to EMI from the motors, because of the orientation of the coils wrt the platter.
Thanks Lew. Will give it a shot. My EMT is a direct drive table.
