I'm going to use an Ikea Aptitlig cutting board as a plinth for a Dual 1019.
Before I start hacking on it, does anyone have tips on machining bamboo?
TIA

The problem with Bamboo is the HIGH SILICA CONTENT.
This mean use the Sharpest tooling you can manage. Manufacturers of bamboo speaker enclosures report much higher tooling costs, which drive UP final cost.
Too much is never enough
I would love to make this project...
Nice project, but I'm not sure about the sonic benefit of the air filter foam material implemented as a constrained layer between the two boards. It seems to be more of an experiment rather than a final design element, but I would have to compare how it actually performs vs. other materials before passing an uninformed judgment.
Wow...OMG...I want two of them...LoL.

Wherever you go there you are.
Bamboo is as hard as maple so have good blades. Pilot hole w/ a 1/2" bit and then a sabre saw. Go slow and it'll be fine. Draw your outline of course.I just re-sawed an opening in a moving shelf/ plinth from a Telefunken console to allow a much better Garrard Lab 80 to fit and it went fine. I've got to make a new plinth for my Dual 622 and may get two of those and sandwich them together to replace the plastic POS Dual included with this pretty nice table.
It is 3/4" thick, is that enough for you or are you putting two together. Two together would look nice w/the two tops glued together with about 10/12 dowels added to add strength.

EDIT: Just looked closer and the 11" depth of the chopping block isn't going to work for the Dual it should be about 13.5 deep min says Dual-and now I just saw that the Butcher block is over 14 D and would work.

I'm thinking of mounting it in one board with brass spikes that will rest on another board. The mechanicals and motor would be exposed. Will need to add a bore in the lower board to clear the motor.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
