Duster. Thanks much for your input. But before I grab one of these relatively cheap bamboo boards, I'd hate to miss an opportunity to spend a heck of a lot more money on something else (my usual pattern). You seem to have done a lot of research/experimentation in this area. Just wondering if you have played with the Gingko Cloud systems. I need both a platform and a dust cover and a Cloud 11 (with fitted cover) -- except for the expense -- seems like a pretty good solution. Whaddya think?
Follow Ups:
I have no experience of any Gingko products, but they've received fine reviews. Do you wish to build (or have one built) a custom plinth for a turntable, or obtain a vibration control platform for use under a turntable?
It would be a vibration control platform under the turntable.
My setup was a Trans-Rotor Rondino turntable atop a 4" thick Mapleshade turntable platform set upon 4 Herbie's Audio Labs Iso-Balls/Cups, further set upon the top shelf of a Mapleshade Samson Rack. My TT dust cover was a Rubbermaid storage basket that I had put oak handles on. Actually looked pretty good, even though it didn't fool anyone.
All was well until I added a second arm in order to accommodate a mono cartridge. The tonearms now extended past the boundaries of the Mapleshade turntable platform and also would no longer fit inside my "cheapie" cover. So I had to start thinking about both a new platform and a new cover.
And that's where I am today.
As an experiment (unless the configuration would be entirely too tall), you might consider keeping the Mapleshade turntable platform positioned on the top shelf of the Mapleshade Samson Rack, with a set of four Herbie's Audio Lab Gabon Ebony Domes with a Herbie's Audio Lab Thin grungebuster Dot adhered to the base of each dome (positioned dome-side-up) placed under the Mapleshade turntable platform, then place the 18" x 24" x 2" laminated bamboo board I pointed to on top of the Mapleshade turntable platform, with your set of four Herbie's Audio Lab Iso-Cups/Balls positioned under the laminated bamboo board. I'm not quite sure what you might do about the dust cover...
