regarding the fuse issue. It turns out on the four rail fuses that the current flows from the backside/cap of the holder to the inside on all four of them. (2+/2-)
I Thought it pretty cool that the tech called me. The official company line is they do not recommend using non UL approved fuses and he noted that he has a few after market high end fuses and they have different dimensions.
That response does not surprise me. Nice to get a call though.

Just checked my listening notes. I had the HiFi-Tuning Gold fuses pointing outwards as were the Silver Star originally. Didn't like the Silver Star that way and pointed them inwards. The difference was immediately noticeable and positive and have left them that direction ever since.
Your receiving the call from conrad-johnson was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for sharing.

Their reply to me was that they didnt recommend messing with the fuses.
They tend to be a conservative lot at conrad-johnson. Don't know whether that's a top-down corporate philosophy or what. They also recommend not swapping the stock tubes for anything other than the exact same type and maker.

Cant swap my CT 5 tubes. There are no substitutes that I know of.

Could save you a lot of money trying this or that. You're right, except for the 6H30Pi-DR, there isn't any substitute for the 6H30Pi-EB that I'm aware of.
