About two years ago I was in the project to build my fullrange loudspeaker. After several months of set-up il found that the sound was not airy enough...In this time I was interest in super tweeters but their price was a bit high for me. I was looking for a cheaper solution and find the little batpure, the entry level of the Japanese brand Taket.
In this time on the french forums I was writing, a lot of people began to laugh after me because...IT WAS TO CHEAP AND SO, COULD'NT WORK!!!
But, one thing I like is to go where other people usually don't want to go because I believe it's the only way to discover new things...I know too, that a good device can be cheap to build...
So I began to exchange letters with Takei San and became more and more excited by it's way to use supertweeters...wich was really different of other brands...1/low efficiency of about 75db wich can work without problem with 99db drivers...
2/No crossover! Simple!!!
3/Very tiny so no problem to fix it
4/On a Bass reflex loudspeaker use 2 batpure per loudspeaker: one next to the driver and the second in the...port!Finally I have 6 batpures 2 in each loudspeaker and an another pair for each of my 2 velodyne subwoofers.
If I remind well the price was about 50 euros/ pair so cheap enough to try!!!
And now the result!
After pluging the batpure, I turned on the stereo and that a was a bowl of air around intstruments and singers: a very natural presentation of music!
The bass began to be more tighter and all in one it was a big improvement! After a while some friends began to try and about 8/10 did find the improvement I heard. A friend of mine had a pair of the very praised Townshend audio and sold them for 3 pairs batpures!!! He found the townshend added highs and changed the sound of instruments when batpures only had air, punch and natural presentation...
So too cheap for being effective???:)

Funny you posted this. I have been thinking about doing the same thing (although w a xover) with a Fountek ribbon tweeter. I was going to use 2 of them per speaker to get the impedance and efficiency up to match my 100db speakers. I would guess two would also have a bigger dispersion.
Hmmmm.
Hi,
why efficiency is not a problem:
I have ADD when it comes to these kind of articles. I am not only skeptical in pseudo science but my ability to decipher what is complete bullshit and what may have some validity.
Anyway, I think I've been hung up on tweeter efficiency and suspect that the highest registers are heard differently... as referred to in the article.
Time to experiment and give it a try.
their website is hard to understand or maybe it is just that simple/
Intriguing to say the least.
No question, the Japanese audiophile is an extraordinary phenomenon. One should always pay attention to what they are doing.
Thanks for the notice with the hopes of more detail.
Wich details? tell me!
