sand? What do you mean?
Follow Ups:
@aupiho.....tweak #1 of the list of tweaks stated in the cd tweak link. Sorry for the confusion.
Has anyone tried it? Worth the trouble?
From: tweakaudio.com1. Lightly sand the outer and inner edge of the CD with sand paper (240 grit works fine) to remove the shine. This roughing of the edges stops a great deal of the laser reflections. This results in a more musical, natural and detailed playback.
2. Green or blacken the edges you just sanded and also green or blacken the top and bottom of the CD around the center hole where it is clear. Make sure you color into any centering grooves or hills. Because the laser is red everyone has assumed that you have to use a green marker to absorb the light. Black absorbs all colors and works very effectively. You want to use a marker that is opaque, doesn't come off on your fingers and also does not peel off. Surprisingly cheap and effective is your basic black Sanford Sharpie marker. With this marker you need to go over each area several times to make it opaque. Doing this will give you even better sound.
Yes it dose help to improve the sound of CD's

I will have to try that with a CD that I have 2 copies of. It would be interesting to see if it works. It certainly won't cost much. I have the sandpaper. At worst I will be stuck with a Sanford Sharpie!
Dave
literally sanding the data side of the disc, with very fine sandpaper 600 grit or finer. Claim was that if scratched the disc would track easier and give a warmer sound.
Did it to damaged disc once and it worked, at least for a while.
unclestu, it's a good thing i didn't know this in the 90'es...all my CD's would be frosty now LOL.PS: "remember I'm relatively old being 63"
unclestu, you had to go and pop my bubble, i am 62 and (thought) i was "still a young man"...oh well, now I'm depressed LOL.~D

A cheap cd demagnetizer as good as hifi tuning ones!
Very good product!!!
work on the same principles. Cheapest way to access one: search Ebay for tape erasers. I use a Geneva brand ( discontinued) 2800 gauss hand held machine. Works well for CD's , LP's, LP platters, and weights, etc.
I can degauss a CD without taking it out of the case ( as well as LP's)
Good idea Stu,
It sould be very usefull to degaus cables too!
You can hear the effect but it is not permananent, in fact I can hear the effect fading within 3 to 5 minutes

@ipdtt...thanks. Let me understand this correctly...outer and inner edge of top of CD (label side)...AND... outer and inner edge of bottom of CD (music side). OR does one sand just on the outer and inner edge on TOP side (label side)of CD.
Reason why I am confused is because there is no mention of which side (label or music side) to sand.
Sorry...I am sorta slow today.
Sand the whole side, inside and outside, and apply paint or marker to the same whole side. I would avoid the top and bottom (obviously) of the disc.
And by "sand", I'd consider that scuffing it, not sanding to remove much material. You really just want to rough it up. I've never tried the sanding, but had good luck with the CD StopLight paint pen, many years ago.
@1973hovel, ipdtt and everyone....
Got it. Thank you all so much for taking the time to help explain.
1973shovel, Thank you so much for your post.
pc123v, i hope that 1973shovel's post is helpful to you, if you need more info. i will try to help.
{You do not sand the top "(label side)" and you do not sand the bottom "(music side)"} of the CD at all, you only want to scuff/sand the outer and inner edge/side of the CD.

pc123v,For Tweake #2 pull out one of your CD's and go to the link below, and scroll down to the picture of the CD and hold your CD next to it, you will see that your CD should have a clear section of plastic around the hole of your CD and that the CD on the web page is blacked out around the hole (thats the clear part of your CD) with six black lines running to the outside edge of the CD, and that is what you want to do to the label side of your CD with a black Sanford Sharpie marker and around the edges of the CD that you scuffed/sanded.
Now when that side of your CD is dry (about 2 minutes or so) turn over your CD (music side up) and you will see the black from the label side of your CD through the clear plastic.
This time you want to blacken the bottom (music side) of the CD around the center hole where it is clear exclusively (NO BLACK LINES ON MUSIC SIDE) (do not go outside the clear area with the black marker on the music side of the CD).Wow i hope this helps you.
