Some are dismayed by the numbers i post.
1. remember I'm relatively old being 63 ( yeah I know there are older).
2. I started in 1967 with a modest Sony all in one system that simply plowed through my favorite records
3. I upgraded with Transistor Dyna Kits the infamous bose 901, and best TT I could afford as I realized my software was more valuable than my hardware.
4. Entering college in 1970 I had to pay my own way. expendable income was more than just tight, it was non existent. Bought a car, too, to impress the chicks. Most times after making payment, I couldn't afford gas even though it was less than a dollar a gallon.
5. enter the world of tweaking; Audio Amateur created the concept of POOGEing. Slowly as I gained confidence I began to employ its tenets.
6. be aware some of the tweaks I write about sometimes go back many decades. IN opening a retail outlet I kept many secret as it gave me an edge over competitors and I could make rather interesting upgrades in doing service calls.
My CHF has reached a point where my heart function is only 15% on a good day. I have no real reason in keeping secrets any more and I'll be releasing them as time and the readership permit.
7. Remember these are lessons gleaned over decades, talking to many other engineers and physicists, and learning what I can.
8. when I say I rather not spend further time, there are concrete reasons why I say so. Time is extremely finite when your health is at risk ( no sympathies please, I've had a good life). just remember that certain concepts and principles have literally taken me decades to conceptualize within myself.
And the show goes on.......

Thanks
Hey Uncle Stu,
I am also 63 and had a severe heart attack about 3 years ago which required a defibulator. I have not had any events since (knock on wood). Like many here music is very important to me and I enjoy reading your responses, I hope you can keep up your health and responses.
also, I sent you a couple of emails concerning your SDS for sale. I understand your situation and please take care of yourself. Get back to me when you feel up to it, I am in no hurry.
Take care,
Richard
Is there a way to compile all of them as a sticky or some other way? It would be cool to have the collected tweaks of unclestu in one place.
For Al Sekela and several other of the old regulars here.
Unclestu, Thank You! Thank You!! Thank You!!!. You are 4 STAR * * * * in my book.<> "It would be cool to have the collected tweaks of unclestu in one place" <>

Best Wishes.
I had a old timer ask me once what was my most valuable possession. I thought about it and said my house. He said his was time. He had no idea how much he had left and tried not to waste it.
I am now 70 and soon 71 and I realize how true that is. I also was fired up by the Progressive optimization series in Audio Amateur. Started out of high school with a all in one suitcase style stereo record player made by Magnavox. Music has always been a driving force which we also share in common.
I wish you peace and good things as you deal with this major health problem.
We all look forward to your posts. We've all learned a lot from those like you and Al. Thanks for this post. No sympathy per your request but I guess gratitude is OK.

Well said. I too have found myself thinking about Al on several occasions in the last year. Once I was wondering who would know about such and such and thought that I can ask Al. Good man who gave much. Best regards Moray James.

For AL + unclestu
Thank you for all your tweaks which helps folks like me who love music and hifi but don't have one million euro in the bank!
Take care of you!
I appreciate many people's help with tweaks and especially Uncle stu's which have been numerous and usually(HA!)helpful. Thanks to all and a special Thank You to Uncle Stu.
Uncle Stu,
You have a great and generous spirit to spend precious time here now. Apart from a daily hour's walk by the beauty of The S.F. Bay at dawn, there's little better for my health than listening to classical music reproduced with the help of sound-enhancing tweaks many of which originated with you.

Unclestu I'm a very young 71 and also have a faulty heart. My condition is mild compared to yours and I work hard to prevent further complications. Tweaking is something that really excites me but I'm not very original in coming up with something on my own. So, when you post a new tweak or update one of you past post my heart takes a few extra beats.
Because of the many tweaks I've discovered here, (yours and other forum members,) my modest system is sounding pretty darn good. Thank you, you got heart my friend.

Didn't realize you were running on such a deficit, I'll be sure not to give you so much grief! You are right, a lot of useful knowledge of the past gets tossed by the wayside. It is unfortunate that sometimes the way it comes back around is someone picks it back up and calls it their own.
sympathy wanted. I can hold my own.
Just that sometimes I get the feeling that certain responders are jealous of what I write and widespread nature of my comments.
I am not trying to lord anything over anyone, and I am certainly not trying to make a quick buck off of anyone. I've always loved music and I feel if my enjoyment through tweaking helps spread a bit more joy, that's reward enough.
In fact my original point was I have sometimes spent decades on certain tweaks and their implementation, probably more than many others would even bother.
My comments about naysayers need not bother to read, was exactly because I intensely feel this lack of time remaining. I really don't want to take the time to start off from scratch for explanations although i do try.
Thank you, though. Just carry on and treat me like anyone else
I'm glad to know you have a defibrillator implant.
Let us know if it kicks you back into gear, at some point ;-)
Best wishes,
Duster
