While in there what else did you make right? Re tightened connections? removed the ground from the box as they did in the past and connected it to the outlet? It may be a cumulative effect too.

I also tightened the screws as well. I could not see where the ground attaches to the box to move it to the outlet. Yes, it could have been so cumulative effect.
I always gently scrape the Romex hot and neutral conductors to shiny copper. Vibration damping in the box and for the cover is good. I seem to remember you said you have the robust Furutech cover on that outlet.

I've done the same. It's amazing how oxidized the wiring can be especially in an older home with original wiring.
