You are going to create a very nasty environment in there keeping those things in all night.
You might end up with an even worse problem.

But surely you could try them out and see, the effects are reversible.
FWIW, I've been using earplugs (foam, EarSoft brand) for over 15 years EVERY night and have suffered no ill effects whatsoever. And they sure work wonders if you have a partner who snores or if you live in a home near a highway or such.
The only cautions I would give are:
1) Make sure your ears are clean and dry before inserting the earplugs.
2) Be sure to remove them slowly, especially if they seal rather tightly. A ruptured eardrum will surely mess with your enjoyment of your system....

Rick MCInnins,Those of us, using silicone earplugs at night and leaving the ear with 16 hours of air exposure during the day, find that the only side-effect can be the very occasional 'dry ear' when the ear wax gets depleted. The application of a prescription for Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Cream 45gm manufactured by Sandoz takes care of that side-effect. Others have marched over this bridge before you in some cases for years so there's nothing but the uncomfortable volume of ringing to lose.

I sleep every night with the below listed earplug. Never had a problem.
Certainly less likely to cause a problem during 8 or so hours of sleep than the 12 or more hours many people have to wear them in industrial environments.
As someone that was in the "ear" game I'll say there are some people that may react negatively to no air circulation nightly. I thought of posting on this very topic. The ear is engineered if you will to be an open baffle not an acoustic suspension sealed chamber. It would only cause a problem to less than 10% of folks but is still something that should be monitored. The downside could be far worse than the benefit for those that react poorly to a sealed ear. Not just wax problems but ear infections caused/accelerated by the increased temp becoming a breeding ground for bacteria etc. Trust me, I've seen it in some construction workers. It's bad. Also make sure your hands are clean when handling the plugs.

and there has been absolutely NO problem with her ears from doing so.
Maybe not BS as much as a miscall?
