I sure never expected to be misled like that by a company like Parasound. I can't remember the link but, I've also seen a colored photo of the insides which clearly shows the 10k. caps. This kinda makes me wonder now about the rest of their listed specs? They could have updated their specs by now I mean, they have been selling this model for several years. I think my next audio component purchase will be another brand.
Follow Ups:
I found references on some forums from other owners talking about shootouts and repairs on the A23 where people refer to the power supply as having 48,000mfd caps in it which indicates others seem to believe they have something other than what it is.
And then from page 17 of the owners manual for the A23 there is this.
"To create the +/- 55 Vdc B+ and B- supply rails for each
channel, we use high-speed rectifier diodes and four
enormous 12,000 uF Elna electrolytic filter capacitors"
More than likely it's a matter of not updating the spec in the manual. It is disconcerting though on what to believe on the rest of the specs. Not that it makes a lot of difference to me as I'm getting fond of the amps sound. But still! I tried calling the Parasound repair depot this morning to talk to them about it but it must not be open yet. I'll keep trying. I also asked the dealer if he could get me a schematic. He said he'd try but he had his doubts.
Pretty incredible when you think about how fast this went to the top. He had responded within a few hours and sent a cc: to numerous people in the company regarding it. I'm trying to think back as to when was the last time I saw service like that. Getting rare these days. I would have posted it yesterday but first asked John Deem of Audio Contractors to ask Richard if it was ok to do that. Both of Richard Schram's emails are pasted here with his permission.
The first response is from John Deem.
Hi Lee.
I didn't read all this yet. However you can see how Richard is on top of stuff. I know of NO other company owner of a brand name product to reply this fast. Kudos to Richard. Deemer

Hi John,
You are welcome to forward this to Lee extend my apology for his concern and anxiety. I copied a few folks in our tech dept so they’re aware of the conversation.
The A 23 was introduced in October, 2002 and it originally used 12,000uF caps which were discontinued in 2004. We replaced these with excellent quality 10,000uF caps with a higher temperature rating. Higher temp rated caps typically have equivalent performance to larger uF rated/lower voltage rated caps. When we changed caps we could not find any sonic differences or restrictions on dynamic capability.
There has been no deliberate intent to mislead. Over the years we received so few inquiries about this that we forgot about it. Our small staff pays more attention to the development and refinement of new products and the support of existing products so historic website and manual changes are occasionally overlooked.
Our specifications in the manual do include the disclaimer “Subject to change…”
John did not spec the original or replacement caps. In fact, he did not spec using the 33,000uF Nichicon Gold Tune caps in the JC 1 – that was our choice, much to his delight.
The numerous recording studios using A 23s have embraced it and found nothing like it at anywhere near the price. I hope Lee enjoys his A 23 for many years to come.
Merry Christmas!
Bst rgds,
Richard
Hi John,
I appreciate Lee’s consideration. My answer is affirmative. I write every email realizing that any of them could find its way to the internet.
I’ll bcc: John Curl so he’s aware of this.
Take care,
Richard
