do YOU leave it on the connection, and leave it slippery with a little on the surface, or use a wax on wax off approach, where you leave it on for a minute, and then buff off all the excess? It seems leaving any on the surface actually degrades the sound IMHO. Everything became holographic, but also lost solidity. I wiped all of it off, but still think that it's like car wax, you wipe it on, then off, but it still leaves it's shine and protection.
What do you guys do?

I bought some, too. I didn't wipe it off and neither did it make any difference -- at the time -- and, so, I stopped using it.
I have given up using the gold and just use deoxit. I also found the gold seemed to decrease fidelity even when I wiped it off. I still have a can of gold that is 3/4 full and has been for over 5 years.

Agree with you... do not leave any trace on, for either "strength", but especially the 100%. I ended up using the 5% strength due to getting poorer sound quality with the 100% - that, and simply ruining a new set of WBT banana plugs using the 100%. Do not let the product remain on any plastics (IEC housings and the like); on cheaper plastics it will weaken them.
The cleaner DeOxit is what really has made a bigger difference in my experience. Use lotsa Q-tips or shop swabs to remove any and all remaining solution and discoloration, using Pro Gold after or not. Again, do not let it sit on plastics. Use a little, let it sit for a minute, or as needed, then remove all traces. Repeat as needed. Results will vary from each metal/plating type as some do not oxidize (gold, for one) as others.
Happy Listening this Thanksgiving.
My experience is that all that stuff turns to a varnish-like coating(however thin)over time. Wipe it off with alcohol and use MG Chemicals Super Contact Cleaner #801B to clean and coat contacts.
