Uncle Stu,
Thank you for the suggestion on which I need clarification to avoid confusion. The driver is being activated by the magnet to force air forward to the membrane and your tweak is to lower the resistance of the return journey of this air-pressure by inserting the head of putty on each arm of the basket facing forwards towards it/ the front with the diminishing rest of the teardrop facing backwards towards the rear/ driver & magnet?

Think side profile of an air plane wing. FOrward edge is blunt, trailing edge is tapered. YOu want aor movement away.from cone to be smooth and turbulent free.
Uncle Stu,
Creating precisely equal teardrops of rope caulk to place on the inner arms of the speaker baskets is beyond my ability but I listened to the sound after installing my best attempt and heard some increase in definition/ decrease in fuzziness around the notes. This improvement was less than that brought by teardrops on the speaker surrounds to my ears.
I also tried adhesive felt (no room for wool felt) on the front/ back and then only the back of the basket arms to hear that, with Vienna Acoustic Maestro Grands and my ears, it buried too much musical detail.
