Sacrificial Resistors or What are they really called??
I just repaired a power supply blow up where the sacrificial resistors laid down to die as they should to save the circuit. However, I was surprised at their location AFTER the regulator!
I would have assumed that they should be located before the regulator??
I actually replaced a 22 ohm resistor by a 10 ohm resistor. They are only 1/8 watt resistors and I hope they don't flame if they do go. The circuit seems to be doing better with the lower resistance, although What if they don't die quickly enough next time?? Cross my fingers I don't have to find out, though.
Follow Ups:
I have often seen them refereed to as fuses on many schematics.

Freak out...Far out...In out....
that could double your fault current. Can the regulator supply double without failing?
