I am always looking for ways to improve the sound from my stereo. I use a subwoofer and I keep my crossover on the sub set at about 80hz. My receiver also has an adjustment for the sub's cutoff. what if both are used at the same time?
Follow Ups:
With my HT processor, I use both crossovers to optimize their respective ranges.
I use the high pass to improve the power handling of the smallish mains and the low pass on the subs to limit their upper response.
I run my main speakers full range and augment as they roll off with the subs. If it were my setup, I would just use the built in crossover the sub has.
No reason to use two crossovers that I can think of. Just more stuff to hurt the signal. Tweaker
get rid of one? which one...the receiver or subwoofer? They are both nice. Good receivers have this feature. doesn't make sense to throw it away. It is easy to disable either....
I guess you ment it's easy to disable either crossovers? You don't need two crossovers. Tweaker
"what if both are used at the same time?"
Exactly what will happen depends on where you set the corners, the order of the filters, and the response of both your main and sub.
But what the heck, it's all reversible. Either measure or just listen and play around if you've a mind to. If you carefully note where things are now you can always get back.
After all, stereos are just toys... But GOOD toys!
