Yes, I had a look at the spec sheet for the MJE243 which you supplied - fT is 40MHz, min (upper not specified).
However, someone told me that fT for the BD139 is in fact 190MHz (at Ic of 500ma) ... but this item doesn't appear on the ST spec sheet which I have for the BD139 - so I don't know whether it is true or not?

The old Philips made ones are excellent indeed and the current clones are junk. You cannot reasonably need better hf performance for a regulator than the old ones can provide. Other parameters, like per example Hfe/Ic linearity can indeed be bettered, but not Ft
