Greetings- Trying to save some money so I'm trying to find an inexpensive source for four 68,000 uf /100volt 95*C electrolytic capacitors for a Krell KSA 200S power amplifier which is now over 20 years old. The installation looks fairly straightforward , I'm just trying to avoid shipping (or driving) this 125 pound amp back to Krell in CT. Suggestions ?/ Is Surplus OK if they are NOS? Thanks, Paul

I came across this website while surfing the web. Give them a call and see what you can work out for the caps.

yesterday (Monday) , and talked with the owner for over a half an hour (great guy!). His advice, don't replace the big filter caps, UNLESS they show physical signs of wear or heat damage, or you're hearing some hummmmm, which I'm not. He also said that it's more important to inspect the output transistor boards for signs of wear, heat, or deformed capacitors. So, for now, I guess that I'll just do a thorough inspection of the amp, and decide what to do with it next. Thanks for all of your help. Paul
Am glad that they were able to help. All's well that ends well. Good luck on the inspection.

I have a Krell KSA-250 and I just replaced the caps on teh soft start board. They were very discolored, but after removing them, they were close to spec. They looked like hell tho.
I also thought of recapping mine, but I have zero issues with it. Works perfectly with no noises....

3 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall. I believe that they are United Chemcon 36DY15340 --- 9319L (date Code?) 95*C. I saw those Kendeil caps on eBay, but after searching on Kendeil's website, they had a "blacklist" of Chinese companies that are selling counterfit Kendeils. I'll stick with American made.

Can you believe that ?, $212.82 for a single capacitor and you have to buy 20 in order to make it happen. The search continues.......
I agree, you should opt for new capacitors.
I Googled United Chem Com and I got a list of their suppliers. Amongst those I saw Mouser and Digi-Key were listed, which are distributors I have had positive experiences.
There are other distributors listed. If shipping is a concern - contact each one and get their shipping rates. Another option is to contact Krell and see if they will sell you a set of the caps.

Buying surplus capacitors can save you lots of money. But as neolith said, electrolytics dry out and go bad, just sitting on a shelf. If you have access to a ESR meter, and also have a way to reform NOS caps out of the circuit, while carefully monitoring their current draw, that's great. Otherwise, you might want to consider buying fresher stock from Digi Key, Mouser, etc.
Oh, and if it were me, I'd be looking for 105 ºC rated caps. Those Krells run hot, don't they?
Good luck.

Most manufacturers are shrinking the size of the electrolytics while maintaining the same values. Nichicon and others make decent caps with similar values but significantly smaller in size. You'll have to buy smaller clamps and perhaps modify them so not to use the screw terminals. The Computer style caps can still be had ( Mouser has a bunch) but they are expensive and still will be smaller. Then again you can also up the microfarads with no harm
I would think NOS is not a good option since electrolytics dry up even when not used. I found a quad set on ebay for you. Downside $500 plus $50 shipping from Turkey.
Without the size, this request goes in the round file.
Inexpensive is a relative term. You did not specify what size caps you are looking for. I am thinking, you are referring to the large caps. I would start by trying to Googling the manufacture of the caps, currently, in the amp.
Then Google "electrolytic capacitor suppliers". Digi-key.com has some caps that meet your specs.
Considering the bad winter we have had in the northeast this year, a drive to Krell in Connecticut would be a welcome change of scene. Call in advance and you may be able to make a day trip.
Good luck.
